Tips for Perfect Camera Syncing

At its core, ShutterDeck is just a fancy remote shutter trigger. The ShutterDeck device hub, like most shutter release tools, doesn't know anything about your camera's exposure, focus, etc. Nor should it. ShutterDeck gets out of your way to let you create the kinds of images you want.

ShutterDeck will trigger your camera array precisely, but here are some things you can do with your cameras to ensure perfect synchronization:

Single shot mode

Put all your cameras into single shot mode. Single shot mode will ensure that every time you trigger your ShutterDeck, each camera will take only one photo.

Manual Focus

Once you set up your camera array for shooting, you probably won't be moving your cameras much after that. So we recommend putting your lenses in manual focus mode so that once ShutterDeck tells your camera to take a photo, your camera doesn't need to spend any time focusing. Autofocus can really slow down a shot, especially if the lighting is challenging or subjects are moving. Sometimes what we do is focus our lenses with autofocus during setup, and then switch back to manual focus for shooting.

consistent exposure

Make sure your cameras are all set to the same exposure settings, or at least as close as possible. Often you'll want to set exposure manually for all your cameras. If your lighting is bright and consistent, you can probably get a way shooting in aperture priority or shutter priority if you prefer.
